BMW has revealed a concept car that runs on hydrogen - and looks like a batmobile. The modified i8 coupe was developed with Toyota. It can travel 300 miles on one tank of hydrogen, with refueling taking about five minutes. Talk about Eco-Friendly
The firm revealed the overhauled i8 at BMW's Innovation Days 2015 event.
It has been given a dramatic makeover in its transition from plug-in hybrid to hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle.
New bodywork, aerodynamic wheels, and matte black paint make it look like stealth jet fighter - or a batmobile.
The two-door coupé relies on carbon fibre construction to keep its weight down and also features an aerodynamic package developed at BMW's wind tunnel in Munich.
However, BMW stresses car will deliver 'instantaneous power delivery and impressive dynamics', and refuelling in under five minutes.
'Fuel cell technology makes an ideal addition to both the BMW i models and, in the future, the series-produced models from the BMW brand,' says BMW.
'Storing hydrogen in a cryogenic pressure vessel can, depending on the type of vehicle, allow an operating range comparable with that of conventional vehicles powered by combustion engines.'
Both cars are also the result of BMW's partnership with Toyota, which will launch its Mirai fuel-cell car in the U.S. later this year.
